Download a printer profile for an Epson inkjet printer

To maximize color management in your workflow, you must calibrate your display (covered in a previous post), and for print output, choose a printer profile that conforms to the inkjet printer and paper combination you will be using. Here we’ll show you how to locate specific profiles on the website for, the manufacturer of many popular inkjet printers. The process is relatively simple: Choose the support category, choose the product category and printer model, then choose a specific paper profile.

Note: Profiles are available only for select Epson printers. We’ll summarize the steps to download the profiles for the Stylus Photo R and Style Pro series. The steps in the first section below apply to the Stylus Photo R1800, R1900, R2400, R2800, R3000, and R800 models; the steps in the second section below apply to some Stylus Pro printers.

Finding a profile for select Epson Stylus Photo R printers

Go to the home page for your region and choose Drivers & Support > Printers & All-in-Ones.

On the Welcome to Epson Support page, under the Printers & All-in-Ones category, click Single-function Ink Jet. In the list of printers, scroll to locate your Stylus Photo R model, then click its link.

The page for your chosen printer model will display. Click the Drivers & Downloads link.

On the Drivers & Downloads page (for your printer model), click the Premium ICC Profiles for [your printer model] link.

Finally on the Premium ICC Printer Profiles for [your printer model] page, locate your particular paper type in the Download Your ICC Profiles by Media Type chart, then click the link for your operating system. The chosen profile will begin downloading automatically.

Double-click the downloaded file, then follow the instructions for your operating system to install the profile.

Finding a profile for select Epson Stylus Pro printers

If you’re using an Epson Stylus Pro model 3800, 4880, 4900, 9880, 9890, 9900, or 11880, you will need to follow different steps to locate an ICC profile.

On the home page for your region, choose Products > Professional Imaging; this gets you to the page for Stylus Pro printers. In the navigation column on the right side, expand the ICC Profiles category, then from the “Select a Printer” menu, choose your Stylus Pro model.

On the ICC Profile Downloads page, locate the desired ICC profile for your paper type and operating system, then click Download Now.

Double-click the downloaded file, then follow the instructions for your operating system to install the profile.

Using the printer profile in Photoshop

Here we briefly summarize how to use a downloaded profile to color-manage print output from Photoshop to an inkjet printer. (To learn more about printing from Photoshop, see our Photoshop: Visual QuickStart Guide.)

In Photoshop, keep your file in RGB Color mode, then choose File > Print. In the Photoshop Print Settings dialog, from the Printer menu, choose your inkjet printer.

To let Photoshop handle color management, expand the Color Management category, then from the Color Handling menu, choose Photoshop Manages Colors. To make the program aware of your printer model and the type of paper you will be using, from the Printer Profile menu, choose the custom printer profile you downloaded. Photoshop will adjust colors in the image to fit the chosen profile.

      Thank you for your comments.
We use WordPress and the Canvas theme (created by WooThemes) to create and update the site with the various text styles and elements you see on our pages. Elaine designed the logo and we created the layout and sidebar widgets by making choices in the theme options and the manager pages that the Canvas theme provides. Hope this helps.
